17-18 Mars 2016 : Réunion de Programmation régionale dans le Pacifique
The Commonwealth Secretariat programme management team met with the Caribbean Hub and Spokes II advisers in the Pacific, as well as other experts, to discuss the main achievements in the region and future work for 2016. This was the second regional planning workshop, with the first Caribbean regional workshop held in Kingston, Jamaica on 29 February - 1 March 2016.
The Pacific regional planning workshop addressed:
- Trade and development issues for the Pacific region
- Updates from the National and Regional trade advisers on their work
- Recent research in the Commonwealth Secretariat and synergies with the Hub and Spokes II programme
- Management and visibility of the programme
Participants in attendance include the Commonwealth Secretariat programme management team (Teddy Y Soobramanien, Lisa Rodriguez and Florence Chilenga), the Pacific Hub and Spokes II advisers and Dr Jodie Keane, Adviser, International Trade Policy, Commonwealth Secretariat. Other major donors and partners included representatives from the Trade Com II programme, the ACP Secretariat and the European Union.
The participants commended the successes of the programme to date in the region and called for the extension of the programme beyond its current envisaged end date of December 2016. This will be essential in order to continue to build trade capacity in the Pacific region and to help overcome the existing trade capacity gaps Pacific countries face.
